COURSES

Uttaranchal Dental and Medical Research Institute is permitted to admit 100 students for BDS Course in each academic year. B.D.S. is a four-year undergraduate course followed by one year of internship which is mandatory to obtain the degree and registration.

Curriculum

General Human Anatomy
Thorough knowledge of General Human Anatomy is inculcated in students with special emphasis on head and neck by means of cadaver dissection and detailed study of hard and soft tissues of the human body.

Physiology and Biochemistry
Physiology is concerned with specific characteristics and mechanisms of the human body that make it a living being. The department trains the student with a goal to explain the physical and chemical factors that are responsible for the origin, development, and progression of life.
Biochemistry provides a sound knowledge of various biochemical reactions relevant to the human system for life sustenance. Various biochemical tests performed on blood and urine samples, collected from healthy and diseased individuals make the student understand how it contributes to diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of disease.

General Pathology and Microbiology
Pathology is a bridging discipline involving both basic science and clinical practice and is devoted to the study of the structural and functional changes in cells, tissues, and organs that underlie disease. The department is well equipped with various molecular, microbiologic, immunologic, and morphologic techniques to explain, why’s and wherefores of the signs and symptoms manifested by the patient, thus providing a sound foundation for rational clinical care and therapy.

General Medicine
The majority of medically compromised patients need oral health care; hence a working knowledge of the multitude of compromised conditions is essential for dental professionals. The students acquire knowledge and skills of analyzing findings from the patient’s history, and signs and symptoms.

General Surgery
In general surgery, students are familiarized with the principles of general surgery and common general surgical procedures. Evaluation of patients for general anaesthetic techniques and management of emergencies along with intravenous sedation is taught.

Oral Pathology
Oral Pathology is the discipline of Pathology that deals with the nature, identification and management of diseases affecting the hard and soft tissues of oral and maxillofacial regions. The student is trained in the science of histology and pathology of oral and maxillofacial region, utilizing state of the art digital microscopy and LCD projection system. The department also undertakes more advanced exercises which provide methods for drawing and carving teeth from wax, allowing the student to become intimately familiar with tooth shape and terminology.

Pedodontics
Pediatric Dentistry is an age-defined specialty that provides comprehensive preventive and therapeutic oral health care for infants and children through adolescence, including those with special health care needs. Students are trained in aspects of child psychology, behavior management, preventive dentistry, interceptive orthodontics, management of decayed teeth, and traumatic injuries. They are trained in radiology pertaining to children, dental health education, and school dental health programs.

Periodontics
Periodontics encompasses the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the supporting and surrounding tissues of the teeth. Students are trained in case analysis, treatment planning maintenance, supportive and surgical periodontal therapy.

Orthodontics
The department trains students in immaculate history taking, methodological examination of patients, performing diagnostic procedures, and management of dentofacial deformities.

Conservative Dentistry
The students are trained to have complete knowledge of aetiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management of dental caries, trauma, restorative and endodontic procedures. Students use advanced materials like composites, glass ionomers, varnishes and sealants, dentin bonding, and light cure systems.

Master of Dental Surgery (M.D.S.)

It is a postgraduate course and the duration of the course is 3 years.

Eligibility Criteria for M.D.S.:
BDS Degree from any institution which is recognized by the Dental Council of India.

Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics: 2 Seats
Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics: 3 Seats
Periodontology: 2 Seats
Prosthodontics & Crown & Bridge: 2 Seats
